The Book Blogger Hop is a weekly meme hosted by Jennifer @ Crazy-for-Books. It's a chance for book bloggers to interact, make new friends, and most importantly, share their love of books!
This week's question is:
What do you consider the most important in a story: the plot or the characters?
Could a harder question have been asked? o_o I usually consider both important, really. The two can't function (well, at least) without the other. A book needs a good plot to keep up intrigue so the reader wants to keep reading. But even the most beautifully created plots will just fall short without a good cast of characters to carry through. The heart of the book is in the characters - they're who we connect with, sympathize with, get angry or laugh or cry with.
Follow Friday is a weekly meme posted on Friday's that is hosted by Parajunkee @ Parajunkee's View. To join, all you have to do is follow the host and the week's featured blogger. This week's question is:
What did you study in college, or are currently studying and did it lead to your current 9 to 5 or are you doing something totally different?
I'm currently just getting my general education courses out of the way in case I plan to transfer colleges. Right now, I'm mostly taking science courses (Chem 2A/B, Anatomy 2A/B, Microbio, etc). They're the main requirements for Nursing, which is what I'm planning to do (pediatrics, specifically). But trying to get into pre-nursing classes for my college is like trying to be first in line for a Twilight movie. It just doesn't happen. :/
Don't forget to check out my interview and giveaway with Julian Vaughan Hampton! Ends 12/29!

first! ^,..,^
Ok, serious comment now~~ err slightly more serious?
Nursing is tough! No wonder you're taking chem... Maybe the professor will take pity and curve because everyone did bad >.> at the very least if everyone did bad, you can explain that away on your applications
Good luck I had planned on Nursing when I was in school and ended up taking Music and Video business. Which now I'm a Stay At Home Mom.

one of my best friends is going to college for Nursing - there is such a high demand for it right now :)
I agree with your answer about the characters and plot. I would like a book to have both - but I feel like ultimately if you don't like the characters, then you won't care what happens to them. :)
thanks for stopping by!

I <3 nurses. So many of my friends are nurses, and it's tough work. Good luck! And, you know, that Twilight idea is a VERY good Plan B ;)
Happy Friday Kristina! I completely agree with your answer for the plot/characters question. Characters are the heart for me as well! And good for you with all your math and science questions, those were never my strengths. In fact, I was miserable at them:)
awww you want to help kids! how sweet of you, i hope you acomplish this.
Hello Kristina *waves*! I love science! I wouldn't be a very good nurse though, I can't stand sickness and blood and hospitals:P I think it would be fun if I didn't have all those fears.
And yesh, good plots don't do well without good characters and visa versa. Happy blog hop!

I stink at science! Good luck with school...it seems to last forever, but an education is something no one can take away from you.
Jen
I think you should just abandon your school and transfer to WI. ;D We have good nursing schools here tooooooooooooooooo.
Also, Kristina dear, you got it wrong in your comment on my blog: you're only a few months older than me, not two years. xD I'm 20. You're 21. Unless...you walked through a worm hole in the last few days and end up two years into the future. o_O
This might be the best Book Blogger Hop question I've seen to date.
So what's the answer? Plot! Hop over to my blog and let me tell you how a good plot rescued bad characters from bad book oblivion.

I agree with the characters. Also thanks for the warning. I'll try to make my high school experience last :>
Also, I love your answer for FF.
"But trying to get into pre-nursing classes for my college is like trying to be first in line for a Twilight movie. It just doesn't happen."
I chocked on my water!
I totally get the college issues- here the nursing program wait list is 6 YEARS AFTER you finish your prereqs. The two schools who offer nursing have DIFFERENT prereqs and don't transfer well because one is a tech school and one is a state school. Talk about difficult- we haven't been anywhere long enough in the past 5 years for me to pretend to get on the list
Hello! I'm your newest follower! I am also a college student who likes to hermit. I'm looking forward to following along with your reading adventures!
Characters and plot are important to me! One without the other causes the book to fall a wee bit flat for me, unfortunately.
Have a great weekend, Kristina! :)
Old follower hopping through! Great answers! Good luck with your courses. I taught A&P to Nursing students for years and loved it! Drop by and say hi! I can be found at Sugarbeat's Books
Happy HOP! First off I'd say both are important to how I enjoy the story but ultimately it's the characters for me. Hope you're enjoying your weekend :)
